Icons of Vienna were literally turned on their side on October 25-26, when the Vienna Tourist Board built the biggest structure ever erected in Trafalgar Square.
The 21m high wall was built to create a spectacular vertical show and public challenge in London over two days. The dramatic acrobatics show played on the wall right in front of Nelson’s Column four times daily – a daring celebration of traditional and modern Viennese culture while suspended in the air.
Mixing art, sound, lights and adventurous aerial displays, the show took inspiration from Vienna’s modern music scene, imperial heritage, iconic artist Gustav Klimt, from its indulgent food and wine scene as well as the Viennese waltz. Demonstrating Vienna’s renowned electronic music scene, DJ DEF Mike was DJing in the square.

Here is episode one of a beautifully shot 5 part mini documentary series from Palladium Boots who we posted about recently for their other excellent series ‘Uneven Terrain‘, it features Pharrell Williams and his visit to Tokyo post 3/11.
The series explores the creative forces that have been a constant source of inspiration for the musician throughout his many projects and we see the architecture, fellow musicians, artists and the parts of the city itself that have been an inspiration as well as an insight into all the hidden gems Tokyo has to offer.
Pharrell has been a great supporter of relief efforts for the Japanese citizens affected by the incidents of 3/11 and he jumped at the chance to visit the metropolis that has had such an impact upon him as an artist and as an individual as this beloved city faces a new reality after the tragedy of 3/11.
While persistent challenges still lay ahead, the city’s creative class is hell-bent on making sure that their hometown thrives. Innovative and resilient, they are defining the future of Tokyo on their own terms.

If you have some spare time Chivas Regal have created two interesting short films which explore real friendship titled ‘Here’s To Big Bear’ and ‘Here’s To Twinkle’.
These shorts were directed by Academy Award winning short film maker Joachim Back and show how situations can bring friends together. This is illustrated effectively by switching scenes from the past situation to a conversation in the present.

For the second year, jotta have collaborated with Fallon Films to bring new pieces of work from the jotta community of emerging artists and designers to 2011’s Latitude Festival.
A ground-breaking water technique produces a giant hyper-holographic 3D moving-image display floating above the lakes at the centre of the festival, where short films and animations by jotta artists were shown in truly unique surroundings.
Twelve contributing artists and designers took part in the stunning array of surreal moving image pieces onto water projections.
For this year’s water projection show, the artists were asked explore the notion of ‘synergy’: two or more things functioning together to produce a result not independently obtainable. The 12 contributing artists and designers have each responded to this starting stimulus with an incredible array of beautiful, ethereal, strange and down-right trippy moving image pieces, which will be occupying the sky and reflected from the lake this weekend.
Contributing Artists:
Daniel Swan, Eric Schockmel, Rafael Pavon, Ian Marshall, Joel Somerfield, Kee, Kristina Cranfield, Paul Ferragut, Pimeriko, Sally Stevens, Sarah Hibbert, Sarah Culross
