Fashion Is…. by Aamaya by Priyanka

April 12, 2011

This year’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign has just launched and their british retail partners for 2011 are Marks and Spencer, River Island, Topshop, Warehouse, Coast, Laura Ashley, My-Wardrobe.com and Bottle Green.

Each retailer has a selection of items from which 30% goes directly to FTBC so in buying something for yourself you are helping others; what a great way to shop. Bottle Green gets a special mention for donating 25p for every new facebook ‘like’.

Neon’s favourite from the FTBC collection is this Topaz Triple Stone Signature Ring by Aamaya by Priyanka. It is a gorgeous contrast of gold with a topaz, citron and grey stone. Watch a video interview with the designer here.

£157 (which is a £47.10 donation)

Christine Elise Kolnberger-Asiz is the designer behind the emerging contemporary brand ‘Borne by Elise Berger’.

Following an internship at Vivienne Westwood and Preen Christine started her own label with her husband Adam.

The couple moved to Barcelona to design and develop the first collection and now split their time between London and Barcelona.

Neon loves the Baron Dress, a feminine spring / summer dress for day, work and night that incorporates masculine details such as the cuffs and pocket panel. The dress has a comfortable width that you can adapt to your body shape with the straps and fasten it on the front or the back.

This rose jersey version with cute bow at the back is definitely on our spring wishlist.

£190 and also available in grey marl jersey, buy it here.

blinc Mascara & Eyeliner

March 21, 2011

neon loves make-up. Eyeshadows, eye gloss, eye shimmer, lipstick, lip tint, lipliners, reverse lipliners, liquids, pencils, matt, high-shine, anti-shine, illuminating…. there is no end to make-up design, finish and results. We’d never heard of blinc but they have been around for ages, winning Marie Claire’s Best Waterproof Mascara in 2006. The award is thanks to their way of application, blinc does not paint lashes, it tubes them. The mascara forms tiny tubes around each individual lash and once applied the tubes bind to your lashes. The make-up cannot run, smudge, clump or flake even if you cry. blinc also offer an eyeliner, eyebrow mousse, eye shadow base, eyelash curler and a lash enhancer to promote growth. neon tried the mascara, primer and liner.

Tested
The three products were tested on a sunny holiday with lots of time lounging in the sun and frolicking in the pool *sighs*. The eyeliner has a great wand which made it very easy to get a defined flick and any mistakes can be easily removed with a bud before the line dries. The mascara didn’t give you the volume we are used to so it is worth using the primer first. This puffs up the lashes really well and they are then ready for tubing. Both products remained dark and defined all day even with a few small rubs when in the pool and topping up sun-tan cream on the face. Removal is easy with some cleanser or and wiping fingers gently in a downward motion popped the tubes off each lash. There is a huge advantage of this as once the tubes are off there is no mascara residue and it stops lots of wrinkle-enducing rubbing like with stubborn waterproof mascara.

Verdict
This is the best solution we have ever tried for those times when you need your eye make-up stay put; holidays, weddings, funerals, dates (and the morning after), long days at work, travelling …. but when also used with the primer blinc is great for daily use giving you the same results as any volumising mascaras. Highly recommended.

Full-size and trial size blinc products can be bought directly from the website.

Mulberry Shorts & Silk Shirt

March 15, 2011

neon loves this combination of the chestnut blouse and light blue shorts. The shorts are long enough for any leg shape with brilliant gold detailing to define the waist. Alternating sandals/heels/flats and adjusting jewellery will give a great spring summer look for weekend/night/office.

Daisy Lowe in Spitalfields

August 12, 2010

This video is presented by Palladium who have been making original footwear over 60 years. It features Daisy Lowe who shares the importance of authenticity and being original, characteristics reflected in the way she dresses and her personal style.

Neon likes this video for two reasons.

The first is that it is filmed in an old house in Princelet Street, we are guessing it is number 19, a Huguenot master silk weaver’s home with a synagogue in the garden. Neon are lucky to work in this area, there is a fascinating amount of local history thanks to Spitalfields being a home to immigrants from refugee French Protestants in the 1600s to today’s Bangladeshi community – each new nation leaving its mark on the place. Dennis Severs House famously brings the area to life in his physical recreation over 4 floors and historical guided tours of the area walk through streets with frontage that still bear strong resemblance to their past.

The second reason we like this video is that Daisy Lowe appears honest and is interesting to listen to, removed from her perceived media persona. She speaks frankly about why she became a model, who her influences are and what she likes to wear; an honest insight into one of today’s trendsetters.

Welcome Back 1994

October 20, 2009

Loads of serious stuff has happened since 1994 we’d probably all like to wipe out, 9/11, Iraqi war, tsunami, hurricane Katrina, cloning, collapsing of banks, droughts, famines and sinking ferries…..

Well we can wipe it out – well for ten minutes or so at least.

Dust off the Doc Martins, crack open a Bass Shandy, put D:Ream’s Things Can Only Get Better (if only we knew) and settle into some magazine material circa 1994 courtesy of VICE, all up there to usher in their 15th birthday, celebrated later this month.

Check out a pre-Kids photo shoot with Chloë Sevigny, an editorial crusade to save teen drama My So-Called Life, a defence of Tonya Harding, the mean-girl ice skater behind the clubbing of Nancy Kerrigan plus loads more time warp material.
